Welcome to the Jonesville Community School District. The District
is located in the north central part of Hillsdale County and serves the City of Jonesville and the outlying communities of Moscow and
Mosherville. Beniah Jones founded the village on the banks of the scenic
St Joe River in 1828. Jonesville was the first village to be settled and
officially registered in Hillsdale County in 1828, when Beniah Jones
from Painsville, Ohio moved here. It received a station on the Michigan
Southern Railroad in 1841 and was organized as a village in 1855. The
first recorded school in the village was opened in the fall of 1832 in a
tavern operated by Mr. Jones. In 1833 the first schoolhouse, a log
structure built, was constructed and was operated by Mr. Benjamin
Baxter. Since that time, the community of Jonesville has had a long
history of supporting its schools That support continues through this
day evidenced by the recent completion of a major building project,
which saw the construction of a new High School and well as renovation
and additions to other school facilities as well.
Jonesville is the second largest city in northern Hillsdale County,
at the junction of US-12 and M-99, with Hillsdale, the largest, five
miles to the south. Jonesville is supported by a diverse economic base
including many small businesses, services, and industries. Manufacturing
includes plastics, auto parts and tooling. The headwaters of the St.
Joseph River flow here, and you can find an occasional fisherman trying
his luck at the park on the near west side of the town.
The
District serves approximately fourteen hundred students in pre-school thru twelfth grade in four schools. Each school boasts dedicated teachers and support
staff who are committed to providing the highest quality of educational
opportunities for our children. In addition to an outstanding
curriculum, a wide range of extra curricular activities is available for
all students.
The Jonesville Community Schools are dedicated to
providing the highest quality of educational services and opportunities
for the children of our District. For further information about the
